This 2 day course will provide a multidisciplinary review of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and malignant melanoma (MM) with respect current standards of practice and advances in treatment.  Day 1 will review treatment of NMSC, such as Merkel cell carcinoma, and high risk basal cell (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and Day 2 will review advances in melanoma treatment.

 Learning Objectives                           

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiologic burden of NMSC (including SCC, BCC, and Merkel cell carcinoma) and MM
  • Review current staging and prognostic stratification systems for NMSC and MM 
  • Review recent data on the use of Mohs surgery for the treatment of melanoma in-situ and lentigo maligna
  • Review standard surgical techniques for biopsy and excision of melanoma
  • Examine the use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other targeted therapies in the treatment of advanced melanoma
  • Review emerging therapies in the treatment of advanced melanoma
  • Discuss treatment of localized and advanced Merkel cell carcinoma
  • Discuss treatment of advanced Squamous cell carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma
  • Utilize the dermatoscope at a basic level to evaluate skin lesions
